Make Some Money

Read the directions!

Follow the link to join the stock market game.  How much money can you make?

When you click the link you must first register.  After you have registered you must enter the class password.

In order to buy stocks you first need to do some research on different companies.  Go to http://finance.yahoo.com  and look around on the main page OR search for a company.  If you know what kind of company you want to invest in, you can do your own research.

When you choose a stock you wish to buy, click on "trade now".  Enter the amount of shares you wish to purchase and make the transaction.  Everyone will start with $10,000.

You do not have to spend all of your money today, but you must buy stock in AT LEAST 1 company!!

Argument Wars

Yet another game to better understand the Judicial system.  AS ALWAYS, READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS!

In Argument Wars, you will be a lawyer in a major Court Case.  You must select one of the cases and try to win over the judge by supporting your argument.

After the judge has made his ruling, print out your certificate and turn it in for your grade.

If you would like an extra credit grade, play through another court case and attach it your first certificate.

Win the White House

Today we are beginning to learn about the next branch of our government, the Executive Branch.  The President is the head of the executive branch and in order to become President you must go through months of campaigning, speeches, debates, etc.

You will begin an interactive game that takes you through the various stages of running for President.  It is very important that you carefully read all of the steps during this simulation so you know what you are doing.

1. Go to the following webpage: https://www.icivics.org/games/win-white-house
2. Select register and complete the information on the form.  This way you will be able to save your game and continue tomorrow "IF/WHEN" we come back.
3. Select "New Game" and "High School".  Also, make sure that the tutorial is turned on.
4. Select your candidate, slogan, and political party.
5. The first step is the primaries.  READ all tutorials.  Select the issues you wish to focus on during your election.
6. After the primary debates, you will be taken to a map of the US with a lot of different options.  You will be able to poll different states, give speeches, fund raise, play TV ads and more.
7. Follow all directions very carefully and read through each tutorial.  If you are having trouble, let me know and I will help.
8.  If done correctly, this may take awhile to complete.  If you do get through the entire election, let me know and I will come check.

I want to see that you are putting forth effort and learning about the various steps of running for President.  Do not worry if you are unable to complete the election, just be working the entire class period.  We MAY come back tomorrow to continue the simulation, so be sure to SAVE your game so you do not have to start over.
